My Husband and I are recently married and just starting to get out on our own. We both have only our High School educations and some entry level job experience to support us in the job market, but we're driven to be millionaires all the same. We need a place to start out and build our assets, while being low cost and relevant to our interests at the same time. Can you guys help us out? We would appreciate it greatly!
Here's the specifics:
1. Plenty entry level employment opportunities.
2. Low cost of living. Renting, specifically.
3. Great public transportation.
4. Bike friendly.
5. Pet friendly.
6. Dry climate. Can be hot or cold.
8. Lots of outdoor recreation.
9. Sunny, but big thunderstorms are fun!
10. Crime rate not too much of a problem, but prefer low to average.
11. Don't care for night life.
12. Low stress, clean and friendly.
13. Artsy.
We are liberal and would like somewhere that at least leans in that direction. Mild climates are also great. The states we have been interested in are North Carolina, Virginia, Washington, Oregon, California, Colorado, and Arizona. We are open to others, though!
Asheville, Chattanooga, and Greenville, SC seem to fit your criteria, except that they aren't going to have exactly stellar public transportation for Southern cities of their sizes. I think they are about average in that department.
Poughkeepsie has quite a bit of crime, actually. I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for.
Yeah, after a bit of research it seems Poughkeepsie won't be the best for us. Seems like a good place to visit but not quite what we're looking for. Of course, we are still grateful for the suggestion. =)

We've been doing quite a bit of research on Asheville, actually! We really like it but have been reading its not great on jobs. 'Course, it's hard finding somewhere that has a strong economy these days but another area we have been looking at, Fort Collins CO, seems to be doing better for itself. Might you have any info on that subject regarding Asheville?
^Honestly, I don't have a lot of information about Asheville when it comes to that. I'm more familiar with what's going on in Greenville and Chattanooga, and I think it would be a bit easier for you to find an entry-level job in those two cities.
