Fayette, Mississippi. Blacks took over and ran most whites out of town after all the Medgar Evers stuff. The town is now about 99.5% black.

My dad said that his hometown in OK used to have a sign that said (in a vulgar way) "blacks stay out" And he said that no black people ever lived there or passed through. But when I went there this past summer, I saw black people and no one seemed to make a big deal. Times change. The town is home to a large Native American population, but my dad said that whites & Native Americans got along fine.

During discrimination there were many "sundown" towns where Blacks were told not to venture after sundown for fear of racially motivated violence.
One of those areas was Forsyth County, GA outside of Atlanta. Forsyth County had a fairly large Klan population, and many Blacks avoided moving to the county.
As of the latest census, Blacks make up only .7% of the Forsyth County's population. In neighboring Fulton County (home to Atlanta) Blacks make up nearly 45% of the total population.

Why not name it? You might help someone with your information.

The point that the Klan has not been limited to the South is well taken, though. I've heard stories about Klan activity in the Northeast, and some of their greatest strength in the early 20th century was in Indiana, where, if I'm not mistaken, the governor was a Klansman, and the Klan pretty much ran the state government.
As for the idea that anyone of any race or ethnicity could go anywhere and most likely be left alone, this is probably true. However, there will always be the occasional bad exception.

Exactly and all of that is pretty much true.

I know this thread is about places where one race can't go, but I'd like to give a shoot out to place where people think it's like that and it's not.
The mining towns in Eastern Kentucky are a lot more diverse than most people think. The little coal town where my father is from is 25% Black and 20% Catholic - much more diverse than Louisville or Lexington.
Some nearby coal towns listed by percent African American
Benham - 10%
Harlan 7%
McRoberts - 5%
Cumberland - 5%
Middlesboro - 5%
Pineville - 4%
Barbourville - 3%
Coal Run Village - 2% Black & 3% Asian

True and that spills over into West Virginia, Virgina and Eastern Tennessee too. Actually, some of the towns in southern WV have pretty high Black percentages like Welch and Gary.
By the way, what is the name of the town your dad is from? What might be more odd is that the people in some of those towns stick together more than mixed communities in other parts of the state and the South.
