Orlando- not so much for Disney, but they're doing some really cool stuff developing combat simulators for the Department of Defense out there. And UCF is a school on the rise in a lot of regards. (Just don't get sucked into the for-profit trade schools claiming you'll get a job in video game development if you go there because you won't.)

Northern Virginia, particularly around Reston, Herndon, and Dulles. Ever since the tech boom of the late 90s, it's been the home to several major tech companies and dozens of other IT, computer consulting, and other tech firms. I'd also look around Gaithersburg and the I-270 Corridor in Maryland.

I think this statement is true:

Quote:
Every city and every company has a IT department.
If a city is really "under the radar" for high tech, it probably doesn't really HAVE a big high tech presence.

LOL to Champaign. What companies are there? The other three are not really "under the radar".

I don't know for sure, but grapico might have mentioned Champaign due to the U of Illinois being one of the highest ranked computer science schools.

Maybe so, but unless things have changed radically since I left (and I don't think so), that doesn't translate to jobs in the community to any extent.

I don't know - I was just speculating. I know that the U of IL is by far the largest employer in Champaign, so maybe that's why it was mentioned. I didn't mention it, I'm only responding.

Yeah, I know. Just sayin'. I asked DH when he got home (U of I grad) and he feels as I do.
