I understand your feeling, for some reasons Florida always reminds me of Cuba,i don't feel Florida has the southern flavor,it's more Caribean or specifically cuban.

It's a tie between Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia for me.

I don't regard Maryland as a Southern state nor do I consider myself as an actual Southerner, but since it's borderline, I suppose it deserves an honorable mention in my favorites.

Florida--warmest weather, best beaches, best roads, prettiest flora, most preferable culture (at least in parts).

Pass Christian and Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, and stunning Cat Island just a few miles off shore, are paradise to me. Stunning views, historic architecture, beautiful bridges, quaint communities, verdant waters full of shrimp, oysters, and redfish, with dolphins all over the place, and gorgeous weather. They're probably hoping to keep their secret paradise, which is very understandable.

Mississippi has some other hidden jewels, such as Natchez (imagine a slice of Charleston or Savannah overlooking the Mississippi, that the residents seem to have all to themselves) and buzzing and cultured Oxford. There are also quaint, prosperous and elegant small towns such as Brookhaven, that seems to bask in its warm, southern location on the way to New Orleans and delectable climate that seems to grow the most massive live oaks and magnolias you've ever seen.

The vast majority of West Virginia is Southern, and should be included in this poll. So should Oklahoma.
