Cockroaches in NYC (not sure about the state as a whole. I'm sure it's different in different areas). Not so much the area I live in though. I really don't ever see them in this area. Where I teach, in the south Bronx, it's real bad...Last year we had a BIG problem with them. The teacher next door spent 45 minutes sweeping out nearly 400 roaches in her classroom. It's a pretty dirty area, and it doesn't help that our school is even more filthy!
Californians. I mean... What? Just kidding. Kind of. Ha, um... As far as insects/arachnids, hobo spiders and black widows are the worst threat in Oregon. Houseflies are always annoying, but probably the worst insect problem in the state. Not that they're out of control, but there's just not really any bad insects out here. Rattlesnakes are dangerous animal when you're out hiking in the woods. Cougars, black bears, coyotes, raccoons, and skunks are a little scary. Nutrias are a real pest in some areas.
In Missouri, chiggers, sequidas (not sure if that's how you spell it), carpenter bees, cockroaches, brown racloose spiders, tics, and mosquitos get my vote. Wasps are common everywhere, but I'll put them here too. Any insect that can sting you as many times as it wants is a nightmare for sure. Copperhead snakes are bad too, though they are rare in urban areas.
