The Baltimore-Washington Maglev Project
This sounds pretty nice. They want to build one connecting Baltimore and DC in hope of hosting the olympics. However, they also wan to expand it after that to connect Boston to Charlotte. It says it should travel and average of 200 mph. I guess it's very cheap and quiet due to the levitating trains.
On Wikipedia I saw that they already have test tracks in certain parts of the world. One in Germany travels up to 361 mph. The design itself has potential to travel up to 4000 mph if built right through certain tunnels.
Just think if this design was successful. It could eventually take over air travel. Boarding trains and departing/arriving is much quicker than airplanes. Even if it's just smaller setups like the proposed one in the Northeast Corridor. The timeline shows that the Baltimore - Washington one should be done and open in 2011. Have they ever started construction though?
