I already moved to a city on the list: Chicago. I wouldn't mind living in Seattle, Boston, NYC (for a year, max), or maybe San Francisco, if you gave be a giant box of money to pay for a decent place. Denver'd be pretty good, too.
However, I have little desire to live in San Diego, less to live in LA, and I wouldn't live in Phoenix for Vegas if you paid me to.
So, in short, I'm not really a Southwest kinda guy...
Out of these cities if money were no object I'd choose them in this order...
1. San Francisco: Beautiful city, beautiful setting, great weather, great culture, awesome. Lots to see and do.
2. Seattle: Beautiful city, breathtaking natural setting, my kind of weather, liberal but a little bit too stuffy/socially closed off.
3. Denver: Nice setting, nice city, decent weather.
4. Boston: Great culture, history, lots to see and do, terrible winters.
5. San Diego: Laid back, under the radar a little bit, good setting, not gigantic.
6. Los Angeles: Awful culture, too much smog, too many people, too much traffic, but it's familiar and has nice vibe and okay weather.
7. New York: Too many people, too crowded, too big, but tons to see and do, never boring, and very interesting at least.
8. Chicago: Like a mini NYC, but with worse weather. Decent cultural attractions perhaps.
9. Phoenix: Hot, flat, boring, not as nice a setting as some other desert cities.
10. Las Vegas: Hotter and even more boring than Phoenix. Yeah there's the strip, but not much else.
The favorite list is almost the same as the least-favorite list (Detroit, as always, is the exception). People who want to live in Phoenix would hate to live in New York, and vice-versa. These two groups cancel each other out in the poll. Like the Pew poll a few weeks ago, it's all about money. Some people want space and convenience while others want amenities and environment.
Interestingly, Seattle seems to do the best (i.e., is a favorite but not also a least-favorite). The Pew poll had the same result.

No, not really. Four of the "favorite" cities were also on the "least favorite" list (Las Vegas, NYC, Chicago, and L.A.), but the other six were not.
