If you don't like the ''beats''
mute it and go search the lyrics.

But you don't though. Because you don't know any thing about music.
The fact that I am a musician is a major, if not the motivating reason that I find rap so grating on the nerves. The people who create this stuff are not even musicians. Do you ever hear a drum solo in a rap song?? You just hear this thudding sound generated by a computerized drum machine, yet a 3 year old could create that sound by beating a bass drum.

I like drum solos played by real percussionists, not some drug addled loser cueing up a beat that a preschooler could play on a bass drum.

I didn't say you had to like it. I don't like most of the stuff. It's like fast food to me. But by trying to say it isn't music, you put yourself in that class of self-absorbed, self-possessed dilettantes. I'm extremely picky about my music, even within a genre, and I don't think anything of the sort.

I suggest you guys check out a good rock band like UFO or Rush. You'll hear a real, virtuosic percussionist at work, and a singer singing meaningful lyrics. Check out the drumming of COzy Powell, or some authentic African traditional drumming. This is MUSIC!!!

Aside from the African drums everything else you mentioned are terribly vulgar.
