Wow. Are you really saying that you could not read back less than twenty posts where the following was explained?

The assertion was that: People of German stock found/run cities well.

Not that: People of German stock are better.

Not very happy people either.

I still think German-Mexican is a good mix.

Course that's what my kids are so I'm completely biased.
Are you related to Joe Kapp?

In fact, Germans most of the times find a reason to complain. The weather is one of the easiest subjects.
So in spite of things being orderly to a large extent, you might actually prefer places that are more laid-back and warm (not only the weather in a strict sense).

This may sound clichéd, but the degree of one's satisfaction doesn't correspond neatly to the rankings of living standards, HDI's, etc.
I think that view encapsulates what is perhaps what makes America such an attractive place. You can get the best of all cultures in one place with the added bonus of some damn fine weather

I think you can hardly generalize America as having 'damn fine weather'! :-)

I would go as far as to say that there are more people living in 'Bad Weather' parts of America than the entire population of Germany.

I think we would need to know how we are defining "better" and "German stock" to really analyze the matter. Are we just counting Germany itself or Austrians and Swiss Germans too? Are we meaning better in terms of income, employment, livability, or what?

Of cities that top Gallup's well-being list Boulder, Santa Barbara, and Santa Rosa are more German. However Holland-Grand Haven is more Dutch, San Jose is quite mixed, Provo is English, and Honolulu is more Asian. Among the lowest they list on well being Johnstown, Pennsylvania and Evansville, Indiana I believe are more German than any I listed near the top.

Among Large Cities, San Jose and D.C. Lead in Wellbeing

A high percentage of Americans are of German descent so I'd imagine cities founded by Germans or of large German ancestry vary a great deal as that seems to indicate. Swiss and Austrian cities tend to come out well due to certain financial things there. However I believe the Eastern parts of Germany still contain some rather economically depressed cities.

Not that I agree or even really care, but you have no way to know if Germans are good at starting at running cities or whatever. Maybe some of their cultural inclinations from their homeland do indeed make them good at it.

My hometown in Western KS was a mixture of Swedes, Germans and Austrians. In my experience there the heritage was not a predictor of success at all. It really came down to who tried and who did not. I am biased but I think Kansans and in particular Western Kansans are very community oriented and goal driven people who know that their input will be the biggest determinant of their output. People in larger cities, even in beloved Kansas, don't always seem to learn that lesson and spend their lives with their hand out and their butts on a chair.
