I grew up in Iowa and Minnesota and found the towns in those States to be very nice.

I asked somebody one time why the small towns in Minnesota were so much nicer than most cities in America. The person replied that it was due to a German influence in Minnesota. Many of the small and mid sized towns in Minnesota were settled by the German immigrants. They brought their own culture to the towns. This culture included being neat, clean and efficent. Germans were also known as very hard workers and disciplined. The number of people in Minnesota who are German stock is still very high..

I wonder what impact the German people had on setting the culture of many towns in America. I suspect that their influence is still felt.

(I have no German blood myself)

Are there any good German restaurants in mid-Illinois? Michigan and Ohio have many.

The short answer is yes, cities dominated by people from German stock are better.

Depends on how wild you are about authentic Schnitzel.

Seriously, I don't really think it's the fact that it's German stock...I think a lot towns you'd find that have strong heritage and pride are great places. I wouldn't say just because it's German.

Sorry, I have to disagree, cities dominated by people from German stock are better. It's pretty much a known fact.

I know the post seems kind of crazy but it is a SERIOUS QUESTION.

I find that the primary ethnic group who dominates a community has a serious impact on the feel and culture of the community. The German's are somewhat tight, cold but smart and efficent. They have some nice towns all over the Midwest.

I dont think one ancestory is any better then the other or a town of a certain ancestory is any better overall then another.

What cities in the U.S are dominated by Germanic-ancesotried/stock people?

It seems like it in the midwest pretty much every states highest ancestory population is of Germans ancestory. However, I dont think until you get into the Dakotas which out towards Bismarck is overwhelmingly either Germans and Germans from Russia.

I dont know if Bismarck, ND which is probubly the largest overwhelmingly
germanic town in the nation is typical of germanic-ancestoried places
but I know Bismarck has a reputation of a very polite, very insular
and very reserved conservative catholic community.

I'm from German ancestry. It has been my experience that a lot of them are not very friendly. Just my opinion. I'm also of Irish ancestry, and that side of the family is fun with a great sense of humor. The German side has no sense of humor whatsoever.

My German wife keeps me in line; 'cause if I misbehave, she does the "Blitzkreig" on me!
