I think that they are all very important in my decision. I'd like a nice downtown for sure, but in some ways it doesn't HAVE to be the premeire place. LA is a good example. Downtown LA isn't the main attraction. Other areas near the beaches and in Hollywood are more popular. However, downtown is still very nice. It's not Manhattan, but it isn't trashy or anything either.

If I'm going to live in the suburbs of a city, that city better have a lively downtown. I wouldn't ever move to a place that didn't have a healthy, vibrant downtown area. If I had to choose between a midsized city and a large city and the large city was suburban orientated and the midsized city was more vibrant. I'd pack my bags and move to the midsized city.
