OOOOkay, so I spent a good chunk of yesterday wasting time on google maps.

I was curious what cities were at the same latitude as mine, so I zoomed into my town and the pressed left (right is also optional) and zoooom flew west (or east). I feel that to make it fair, you have to zoom into where the scale is at 1 mile (you dont have to accually keep it that zoomed in as you move, just when you are identifying another town)

Without further ado, here are some cities that are just as far north as Winchester, MA

Grosse Pointe Shores, MI

Waterloo, IA (evidently floods often)

Sioux City, IA

South Pass City, WY

Wedderbum, OR

Cerbere, France and Portbou, Spain (the border on the meditteranean)

Very interesting idea!

We'll start in Chicago, IL:

and head 185 miles east to Adrian, MI:

courtesy Wgrc

continue 167 miles east, and we find ourselves in Ashtabula, OH:

courtesy Ken Winters

Another 485 miles east, and we land in Pawtucket, RI:

We're 837 miles from where we started, and now it's time to cross the Atlantic to Tarazona, ES:

Tarazona is 4,317 miles east of Chicago, as the crow flies. Staying in Spain next is Taradell:

Snow! 524 miles east of Taradell is the finale of this leg of the trip, Rome, IT!:

Now lets return to Chicago....:

...and head 239 miles west to Belle Plaine, IA:

courtesy Jeff Morrison

Keep on truckin' to Medicine Bow, WY - 956 miles west of Chicago:

Finally, 288 miles due west of Medicine Bow is Richmond, WY:

courtesy Bachspics

That about does it. There were a lot in between Richmond and Rome (obviously) but barely any places identifiable when zoomed in 2-5 miles on Google Maps. Some of the countries passed through were; Portugal, Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Mongolia, and Japan.

Fun!

I've done this exact same thing before! You know as they say, "Great minds think alike".
We will start at my hometown of Lubbock: (Downtown on a hazy morning, courtesy David Kozlowski)

Going west, we hit Capitan, New Mexico (courtesy C-D)

Scottsdale, Arizona (C-D also)

Blythe, CA (from C-D)

Laguna Niguel, CA (from C-D)

Going east, we hit middle of nowhere, Texas (thanks David Kozlowski)

Columbus, MS (from C-D)

Birmingham, AL (from C-D)

And finally, Augusta, GA (from C-D)
