Pennsylvania. State that gave me my first real job after college. State where my wife was born and where we met.

Second would be New York. State where my daughter will be attending college.

Top 5 for me,
1) Massachusetts
2) Rhode Island
3) New York
4) New Hampshire
5) Maryland

I like my states to have a good mix of urban and rural areas.

LOL, point taken W.Rabbit, so here is my excuse for the OP. All 3 states are in the EAST and 2 states Pennsylvania and Vermont have LAKE coasts. And the third state, West Virginia, as close kin folk to Virginia can "share" Virginia's coast!

Of coarse everyone has their own opinion of what is what on the map but.. it's never going to be perfectly precise.

Actually I was just mostly kidding around with T.W.Rabbit but I see why you added them. It looks like most maps of the "East Coast" include areas well away from the actual coast.

There always has to be someone. Eastern Pennsylvania is undeniably East Coast.

Maryland is my favorite East Coast state. Nice mix of Northern and Southern, IMO, and a transition from mountains to beaches. Pennsylvania falls into a close second.
