Cherokee...resulting from the South Carolina region. My family originally came over from England to Jamestown in the 1600's (i can actually prove it with documents) and shortly after that one of my Grandfathers had a relationship with a Cherokee woman. I think that's where I get my love for Mother Earth.
The stigma against having Native relatives just lifted recently?
Most white Americans have a Native or African relative back there somewhere, whether they know it or not. Basically all black Americans have non-African relatives back there somewhere. I think the estimated admixture was around 30% European or something.
I do not think there is really a stigma anymore. At least not like there used to be. Can you please explain your justification for the claim that most white Americans have a Native or African ancestor?

It is estimated that approximately a 1/3 of American "whites" have some black ancestor. I'm sure for blacks its alot higher. Don't ask me to quote the studies, there is tons of scientific literature relating to geneaology and DNA out there go find it for yourself.
Race is not as static as some people would like us to believe, its quite fluid, and what people look like a 1000 years from now will completely be different from what people looked like 5000 years ago. Populations are always moving and changing.
Yes, I do have Cherokee lineage in addition to the European ancestry. Possibbly some Choctaw as well, don't know for sure. We were always proud of it; never was it kept a secret.

For Blacks that range from 20-100% African ancestry, 80% of the genes in Black America are African.
Also, 30% or so of Whites in the US have some recent African ancestry.
Then, you have to factor in the Native American ancestry in both groups as well and vice versa for Native Americans too. Look up something called "Tri-racial isolates".
My great, great grandmother was a full-blooded American Indian, but I don't know which tribe. Considering she lived in Winston-Salem, I would guess Lumbee or Cherokee.
