I was just noticing Chicago has a lot of towns around it with "Chicago" in the name.

North Chicago
South Chicago
West Chicago
East Chicago
Chicago Heights
Chicago Ridge
Chicago Lawn

What about your cities?

I know Des Moines and West Des Moines

San Francisco has South San Francisco, which is commonly simply referred to as "south city."

There aren't any other communities in the Bay Area that share names with SF, or Oakland or San Jose either. Richmond does have North Richmond though, which is an unincorporated area bordering it to the north.

No, because it would be weird for a suburban town here to have "New york" in its name if it's in NY state. Wouldn't seem to make sense.

There's an area of Golden/Lakewood (CO) well outside the Denver city limits that is referred to as "Denver West".

Not to be confused with: "West Denver".

Big difference.
