I'm wondering what anyone would consider the best coastal town or state to live in and why.

Take into consideration cost of living, quality of life, beaches (the best part of coastal states ), ect....

West, East, North or South...I'm just looking to narrow a potential job search by gathering as much first hand information as possible

Or, tell me what you don't like or where you wish you were...

Any responses are appreciated!

Florida I think would be the best overall. The cost of living concern takes out Hawaii and California or I'd choose somewhere in those states.

The immediate Florida coast is not significantly cheaper. Once you go even 5 miles inland, though, that changes.

San Luis Obispo County in California. Beautiful beaches, mild weather, TONS of hiking trails that are 'off the beaten path'.

It's beautiful here

Where, exactly, is the town of Florida?

There is no town of Florida that I know of but I mentioned the state of FL b/c the OP asked for which "states" as well and not just towns. Some better reading comprehension would have helped you here:

Depends on what part of the state you are looking at, South Florida is probably close to the same. But looking at real estate websites you can get a house on the sand or within a few blocks of it for much cheaper than CA or HI in the less popular parts. Florida has a lot more real estate that is by the beach than either CA and HI and the Gulf Coast is relatively cheap.

Thanks for the responses so far...

It's true, town or state is helpful! I'm landlocked in Iowa now, so even a coastal state where the beach could be a day trip is a significant improvement! I don't need to live on the beach and it doesn't have to be a beach that is sunny year round...I can tough out a winter if need be as long as the summer is rewarding
