Can anyone recommend a good place to buy a condo that's in a cooler place than scorching hot Florida in midsummer? A summer and fall getaway that has rental potential for periods of non-use is desired. I know of the regular suspects like the NC mountains or Maine. Any others come to mind? I'm focusing on the eastern half of the country for easier travel, cooler temps (highs in the lower 80s, 60s at night for example) and two bedroom condos for no more than 160K-170K, preferably 100K-125K. Also a place where one has things to do nearby is essential (walking distance would be ideal), versus in the middle of nowhere and a 30 minute drive to "town".

.....all come to mind first. Sounds like Seattle or San Francisco (or Portland) could be good urban getaways. I'd suggest Minneapolis, Chicago or another Northern city, but it can actually get quite hot around here as well.
Perhaps places like Plattsburgh, Glens Falls, Geneva, Canandaigua, Oswego, Watertown and Ithaca in Upstate NY. All are smaller cities with enough to do, but are also close to bigger cities for more. I think Plattsburgh could be a sleeper due to having a free city beach for city residents on Lake Champlain and it's very close proximity to Montreal and Burlington VT, while being more affordable. The Appalachian Mountains, all the way from Georgia to Maine. I have family in Florida who have a vacation cabin not from the Great Smokies in North Carolina. They have to get out of Florida once in a while for the reason you mentioned, lol.
Because I live in the Northeast, I would probably recommend the Adirondacks. You have the mountains and the lakes, plus a fair amount of things to do. The Adirondacks also get a interesting mixture of American and Canadian tourists every year. Its literally an hour to get to Montreal and Toronto & Ottawa are not too far either. Vermont is right across Lake Champlain. And there is a ton of skiing and winter sports during the cold weather.
Is there any possibility for you to instead of focusing on east, looking at west? Western oregon and western washington is beeeeest place to be in summer. Talking about fanastic weather with scenic mountains and landscapes with lots ofoutdoor activities
