Oh...don't argue with her about that...there aren't any in the NYC suburbs, according to her - even if you show her photos of them, they still don't exist.

They exist a lot more in the Atlanta area

You're wrong...you haven't BEEN to the Atlanta area - how do you know?

Even if they DO exist more in Atlanta - so what? That wasn't the point...the point is that you can't accept that these places exist in your precious NYC. THEY DO - DEAL WITH IT.

Levittown is pretty cookie cutter. It's where it all started.

I know, and I don't mind if where I live is cookie cutter. It has more to do than most suburbs do.

Nope, we aren't like the outskirts of Houston. We've got a lot of ethnic food that's only in NYC and Long Island And of course tons of real pizza, bagels, delis, bakeries

And those are just in 2 towns

Don't even try to contend with metro NYC's restaurants.. Don't see many cookie cutter towns with those

You mean you have locally owned ethnic restaurants in the 'burbs?! You're right, that is only possible in the NYC metro! And, I'm incredibly glad to hear at least one place, your place, is devoid of those suburban staples of mediocrity like Chilis: US Map Restaurant Search (http://www.chilis.com/locations/default.asp?list=Y&state=NY - broken link).

Well, I wouldn't go to NYC for "real" barbecue, chicken-fried-steak, breakfast tacos or kolaches, nor would I go to suburban Houston for "real" pizza, bagels or delis. But, if you think NYC's 'burbs are the only places that can support "real" bakeries, you've crossed the rubicon. There is simply no help available for your myopia.

Well yeah, I know we don't have good BBQ and mexican. There are BBQ and mexican restaurants that I think are good, but I doubt it compares to what you can get down south.
