I just have to say... some people in this thread are extremely, extremely sheltered.

Kids never play outside and someone might show their face for just a minute to get the paper, get out of their car to go in the house, or come out of the house and get into their car. You might occasionally see someone doing something in their yard such as watering the bushes or pruning. The residents frequently must work long hours, a task that becomes unbearably burdensome as the months drag on. High stress is ever-present because of the lack of "down time" or "we" time. This leads to a host of vices and ailments that include alcoholism, drug-abuse, physical and psychological spousal abuse, verbal abuse, depression, mid-life crisis, and other behavioral problems. Kids are neglected and left to their own vices. Raised in this manner, they turn to drugs like crank and meth. They get ritalin even though not prescribed. They commit suicide in pacts, get pregnant in pacts, and cheat on exams. They dye their hair while their favorite color becomes black. Black lipstick, black eyeliner, black clothes, black shoes. Tattoos in the most private of places. Body piercings all over the damn place. Kids listen to rap and dress like slobs or thugs, talk like mopes, and have poor hygiene. Girls look worse at times than the boys. Obesity a problem. No home-cooking, so their diet is a daily heart-attack-on-a-plate. Kids talk back to parents and have sex with each other in their parents' home. Divorce rate very high in these places, as cheating appears to be very common. These places also have homes with the latest and fastest internet service, allow the husband and all the boys in the homes to obsess over porno. Husband also gets a great many "massages" from the increasing number of "good health centers" popping up in his area, willing to risk bringing home STDs to his wife. Wife can't cope worth a damn and is either on some prescribed medication or in therapy. Accustomed to having her way and fighting a losing battle with father time, she wastes the family resources on plastic surgery, liposuction, excessive shopping, and botox injections. A conservation with people in these "ghettos" is mind-numbingly boring and they prefer to discuss the mundane, afraid to extend themselves. An occasional murder-suicide at the home with the Mercedes in the driveway.

So, yes, these places are in pretty bad shape.
Thank you for your stunning expose on the trials and tribulations of middle class life, not sure the relevance to the thread but I am sure it made you feel good to let everyone know that every place and class has it's problems

I think I would take it over a slum where 12 years olds are carrying weapons and selling drugs though.

Yea really...the horror! My child...is...an...emo...goth...vampire...AN EMO.GOTH.VAMPIRE. NO PERSON LIVING IN POVERTY KNOWS THIS PAIN.

The "pain" of the middle class is absolutely retarded. I grew up middle class and feel absolutely privileged to have done so. If people hate their lives so much while living in that economic condition, it's their own fault.

There is much more to life than your economic circumstances. I would rather grow up poor. It gave me character and the ability to handle adverse conditions. My rich cousins on the other hand who were all solidly middle class ended up the losers of the family due to their poor work ethics and inability to bounce back from a traumatic situation.
