Ever thought about Portland, OR? I moved here from the Midwest and love it. The winter is usually above freezing, like in the 40's. It only snows a few times, in January usually.

Knoxville has the Ice Bears and you might find a tech job in Oak Ridge. Don't know about any amateur Ice Hockey.

Phoenix would be the last place anyone would think that ice hockey would be popular. But The Coyotes are a fan favorite now. If you move to an outer city in the subarbs, say mesa or scottsdale, you will find plenty of tech jobs. Phoenix's winters top out at 80, but it is normally round 65-70, but it can get surpisingly cool here. Mornings are often 30-40 degrees, but by noon its 70 again.

If the warmth ever gets to you, head 2 hours north to flagtsaff, where day temps are 20-50 and night temps can drop as low as -20 but are usuallt around 10.
