Well, I've never lived in or near a city, but I've visited S.F. tons of times, and there is a lot to like (at least for the purposes of visiting). I personally enjoy the cultural vibrancy that comes with a large city. The density of museums and public education centers (aquariums, exploritoriums, planetariums, etc.) is truly fantastic.

Easy acccess to everything you need
More charm and not bland like the suburbs
Not too spread out like the country. I like having neighbors close by

hubs of extraordinary and intelligent people vs. a predominant disparity and homogenization in the rest of the country, oh, and better food.

Not having to drive 30 miles for amenities. A plethora of restaurants and shopping options are within a minute drive of my house.
