Barbecue. Other than y'all and hush puppies, that was the only difference. I'd eaten greens, looked at grits--I'm not going to eat them--waded in creeks looking for crawdads.

I grew up in PA, so moving to the South wasn't a big deal. Most of the people there were pretty much like me. Their mom had baked or fried a chicken on Sunday. They went to church on Sunday, and had a Christmas tree and a turkey at Thanksgiving. We had stuffing and they had dressing. It's pretty much the same thing. Not many things seemed strange or terribly different to me.
