Hey, a few years ago there was a Baptist preacher down here in a rural area who refused to allow a mixed couple to bury their mixed-race baby who died in the church cemetery, too. Made national news at the time. He backed off when CNN showed up, though. Yep - happens.

No.. I was googling it but couldn't drum it up. It was a few years back actually, but I can't remember dates or the exact town or anything. It was on the news for a couple of days and then they faded to other things, but it caught the attention of numerous folks at the time.
What should be more shocking is the fact that people are shocked by this. It's amazing that in 2009 people actually think racism doesn't exist anymore. Comedy at it's best

I would like to make clear--this is NOT representative of the South, city or small town any more, it is isolated, it is not mandated by the schools.

Private proms, in general, are odd compared to what I am used to. I thought the school always sponsored them. However, if a group of people want to throw down the loot for their own private prom, what's the big deal? That sounds kind of cool, really.
I wonder what would happen if they quoted 7 white students making cracks about the black students and their prom. How it was "lame" and what not. I don't know why there is a double standard in today's society where it is okay for black people to rip on white people. And they even get quoted in the NYTimes. lol What is up with that???
The article really is written with a bias. Angela, get over yourself! No one is thinking about you when they're at the Prom aka the biggest night of their lives.
What makes this okay is that the proms are held out of school and funded privately. If that is the case, no one really has a right to gripe about it.

If I where the kids I would just not show up to the school prom and just get an ipod and some DJ equipment and everyone go out to a parking lot and have fun
