Where I live, for $300k, you can get an older 3 bedroom condo or a newer 2 bedroom condo. There are no houses in my town for $300k. I live in Robbinsville, NJ, which is in the center of the state.

For $300K in San Jose, CA where I live, you can get a:

1/1 Condo, 632 Sq. ft.

For anything with 2 bedrooms, you'd have to start at least with $325K for a 828 sq. ft. condo, or opt for a mobile home. Single homes start in the mid $400K, and those are the really small and bad fixer-uppers. Any decent liveable single home at least starts in the mid $500K.

I purposely chose a 'lesser area' (not very good) thinking I could find you guys something decent for $300,000...no wonder we have to get the heck out of here. We need a home for half that cost or less!!

This is a house going for $299,000 in an undesirable area:

I mean, for real estate on Long Island, $300,000 is NOTHING!! (except for folks like me who cannot get by here!)

Why is it that the big house looks smacked right up against something else? It looks like there's not even a foot of space between that house and one next door??? What's up with that?

Those seem to be the preferred style of houses these days, at least in this area. I live near Fort Worth and it seems what they call "zero lot lines" are popular. I look at them as giant apartments with air space between them and the next giant apartment. IMO, it's the more yuppie crowd that want nothing to do with yard work or maintenance of trees, shrubs, etc. To each their own, I suppose. Below is what you'd get for 300K in my area. Both properties are actually listed a bit under 300K.
