America is a very diverse country but the media likes to call a city dominated by one minority race DIVERSE. For example they are always calling El Paso TX diverse because it is dominated by minorities. I would call a place like Brooklyn more diverse because there is more people from a wide variety of places, not just Mexico (El Paso).

What is the most ethnically and culturally diverse place in America and would you want to live there?

Miami. People from pretty much all over the world, from South and Central America, the Caribbean, Europe. Cubans, Columbians, Brazilians, you name it, theyre down here.

I wouldn't consider Miami the most ethnically diverse city/ metro area in America- there's a huge Latin population & substantial African-American population, but other minorities are not overly evident... I'd say New York City or Los Angeles in general, as likely every nationality in the whole world is represented in one way or another in those 2 areas.

Probably NYC or Chicago and yes, I'd want to live there. I live in Chicago and love the diversity.

I'd say NYC and Chicago. I would think Miami is very diverse but mostly dominated by hispanics whereas NYC has people from literally all over. I would love to live in NYC but not Miami but their diversity has nothing to do with it.

As far as my knowledge goes, the most diverse cities in the country are

1. New York
2. Los Angeles
3. Houston
4. Chicago
and I believe San Francisco is 5th

Judging from the number of consulates are there. Not the foreign born population.

ethnically diverse does not mean integrated, remember that.

ethnic diversity is not necessarily a positive thing, remember that too.

I'm not saying it's bad or good, I just don't think diversity is the "end all" quality of a city that many of you believe. Personally I would want to live in a diverse city but how is that any better than someone who wants to live in a city with people the same as them?

In some cities diversity has been a great help to their development (NYC for example) while in others it has greatly increased crime (LA).

Give me a city nearly dominated by one ethnic group where any minority (not just Asians and South Indians) can integrate to easily over a diverse city whose ethnic groups either segregate themselves or unite against a particular (usually underrepresented) minority any day of the week.

The real question (at least in my search of where to live) is what is the most (willingly) racially integrated city in America?
