GV0928,
Kudos to you for coming up with such an original and interesting survery topic. Here are my choices in no particular order:

In North America:
1. Seattle, WA - the origins of the "Seattle Sound" enuff said.
2. San Francisco, CA - Great looking city rich in culture and history, with many famous landmarks
3. Austin, TX - Especially during the South by southwest music festival
4. Victoria, BC - considered by many well-travelled Canadians as Canada's nicest city.
5. Boulder, Co - not so much the city itself, but based on where its situated at the foot of the great Rocky Mtns

International Cities
1. S.A. Rio de Janeiro or Buenos Aires - the former for the amazing scenery and the latter for its history and culture
2. Europe - Barcelona - has a terrific blend of culture, history, modern conveniances and mild weather
3 Asia - Tokyo Even the most seasoned travellers that I've spoken to have been blown away by the scale, organization, efficiency and technology of this megalopolis
4 Africa - Cairo or Cape Town - again a tie, the former for its historical significance and the latter for its beautiful scenery
5. Oceana - Auckland - actually I don't know all that much about Auckland, but I desperately want to go to NZ and so I might as well pick its largest city
