This is like saying that you didn't realize how boring the beach can be if you don't like swimming, surfing, sunbathing, or people watching.

Can someone give me a link to the "what shocked you about the US" thread? I can't find it. Or is there even one?

That can't be emphasized enough, that's been my experience as well...

how beautiful San Fran was...flying over NYC and seeing there were actually single-family homes not too far from the city..how racist Panama City was...how clean LA was in the parts we visited...how much fun I actually had in Tallahassee for a summer college program (what a college crowd can do to enliven a place!)...the shiny-ness and brightness of South Beach

New York - how genuinely nice and friendly people were, from NYC to Rochester to Buffalo...they definitly don't fit the stereotype.

San Francisco - the warm, sunny weather...the only time I needed long sleeves was on the ferry.

New Orleans - the amazing amount of litter and garbage in the streets, and the stench it created.

Boston - the boring nightlife...thank God for Provincetown and its beautiful scenery.

Louisville - the beautiful historic structures of Old Louisville and the fantasic Olmsted parks system.

Chicago - still cold enough at night for winter coats on Memorial Day weekend!

Vancouver - friendliest people ever...awesome urban and natural scenery.

Toronto - temperature was -6 the day I left...it WAS in February, but it was still a little shocking.
