I think that the South should get rid of their Confederate flag and just adapt to the U.S. flag. I mean the South is part of the United States so I do not know why they still show their pride and hang their confederate flag in front of their houses.
Agree. The Confederate flag is nothing more than a reminder of racism & ignorance. Those who cling to the Confederate flag are anti-America & don't belong in our nation.
Well it's not like they ignore the American Flag. It's part of the history of the south and if they want to display it as such then they have a right to. Most people who display the stars & bars are not klan members. I think it has also somewhat become a symbol of rural America, even in parts of the country outside of the south.
I used to lean toward "no", but then learning some of the history changed my mind. The flag we tend to call "the Confederate flag" was more the battle flag and was basically moribund until revived by explicitly segregationist types. That and I realized how hurtful it was to Black Republicans at some conference of theirs.
Still it'd be nice if there was a symbol for "The South." Maybe a flag with a magnolia tree or a mockingbird or something. I don't know.
I have no problem with anyone displaying this flag. I live in the suburbs of Chicago and have friends here who own confederate flags and proudly display them - it's OK by me. Anyone who doesn't like it doesn't have to look. I don't like a lot of things in life - suck it up and deal with it.
Haven't people noticed that only White southerns have that flag? I never have seen the Black southerns with this flag. Shouldn't this tell people something? Conferate flag=the history of slavery. The Confederate flag was used in the battlefield of the Civil War between the South and the North. The South wantedfor the slavery to continue, and the North wanted to end slavery. Thanks to the North that slavery is abolish. If the North would have lost the battle then for the activist to win their beliefs were going to be harder.
The Confedrate flag was flown for a Confederacy which waged war against the USA and Old Glory. The Confederacy it represents no longer exists and when it existed, racism was a major component of its existence. In that way, it is like Germany's Third Reich - the Nazis - and the flag has a similar symbolism. So, it should be treated like the Nazi flag - the flag of an enemy of American freedom.
I don't mind it. I've been around it for a long time now, and as a Puerto Rican I've never felt odd or hated around people displaying it.
I've been called "****" by other people, but never the people with confederate flags.
well it depends what state are you from? Because you're like the first Puerto Rican that I have heard saying that lol.
