Retook the test, this time pronouncing the words out loud... though some words I wasn't completely sure how it should be prounounce and had to use dictionary.com to hear it first, then prounounce it myself... would that be accurate?

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland
"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.
Result Breakdown:
88% The Midland
76% The South
63% The West
52% Philadelphia
43% The Northeast
36% The Inland North
34% Boston
9% North Central

Your Result: North Central

"North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

I came out as "The West".
It reflects where I learned to talk (the West Coast). However, I have lived in the South for the past 35 years. Neither the Southern accent nor the transplanted NE accents have rubbed off on my normal speaking voice. But, I can imitate both really well after a couple of stiff drinks with some Northern or Southern friends. :-)

I do, and I have never heard it any other way. Go Minnesota (North Central) accents!

That test is extrmelly accurate. I'm from St. Paul and it got it right.

Like Widowmaker, I was surprised I didn't get "the West," because like WM, I too was raised in a small town in Northern California, from parents who were raised in Oregon. I think there may be a connection between rural Northern California and the Midlands.
