Not sure if a thread like this has been done before, but anyway, what states are very similar to their neighbors?
Oregon and Washington are very similar, I wouldn't say they're exactly alike, because Washington just feels "bigger", even though physically it's smaller, but it's logical to think of the two together.
The Dakotas are very similar too, as are Mississippi and Alabama and Arizona and New Mexico.
Although I've never been to either state, I always imagined New Hampshire and Vermont are very similar. They seem to be interchangable on a map - I can't ever remember which one is in which exact spot.
Not true. Vermont is much more liberal and socialist. NH is more conservative. VT people are taxed to the hilt because of their social programs. NH is dead last when it comes to donating to charity.
Arizona/New Mexico. Prevalent Native American culture, high country in the northern part of the state, desert in the central and southern portions of the state, poor schools, lower income, large Hispanic population, and Tucson and Albuquerque are eerily similar.
Arizona/Nevada. Both desert states, share the Hoover Dam. That's about it.
Arizona/Utah. Large Mormon populations.
Arizona/Colorado. Not much.
Arizona/California. Phoenix, and to some degree, Tucson, similar to Southern California. Similar stores/restaurants, housing styles, vegetation (Palm Trees, Citrus, Ficus, Eucalyptus, Bougainvillea, etc.), winter weather, laid back, similar styles of development, desert, mountains, large Hispanic population.
( If comparison of three states, state listed last also is very similar, but less similar than what the first two share)
Michigan/ Ohio/ Indiana
Wisconsin/ Iowa/ Minnesota
Missouri/ Kansas/ Oklahoma
Kentucky/ Tennessee/ Illinios
Pennslyvania/ New York
North Dakota/ South Dakota/ Montana
Utah/ Colorado/ Nebraska
Washington/ Oregon
All I could pick out, or at least of now.
