In your opinion, what are some manly states and cities in the US? Places where as soon as they are mentioned by name you immediately think "macho", "rugged", "rough", or "bad a$$". For me it would be Texas (steak loving, gun-toting), Pennsylvania (very blue collar, pro working man), and New York (strong law enforcement culture, huge sports state, rough accents). Here is an interesting article from September placing Nashville as the manliest city in America.

The first thing I noticed was that high QOL cities and low "manliest" scores are very strongly correlated (but NOT universally.....or perfectly negatively correlated).
How are Oakland and Boston so low? Places like Miami Beach, Portland, Minneapolis, and Providence beat them? I disagree with the list.
Maybe the high number of strip clubs and ultimate fighting fans out on the east side of town actually helped Portland end up a few spots higher...
Also I think Oakland and Boston might have a lower than average consumption of COMBOS® -- the hearty, pretzel and cracker snack made with real cheese--just as last year I think that was a large part of the criteria. Along with the rankings provided by Incredible Hulk actor Lou Ferrigno, Hall of Fame pitcher Rollie Fingers, World Beard Champion Jack Passion, WWF wrestler Sgt. Slaughter, world lumberjack champion Mike Sullivan, and the very manly comedian Judy Gold.
Wait a second--Rollie Fingers pitched for the A'?! And doesn't the Raider Nation fanbase along with the drunken Boston Irish legacy count for anything these days.
I think Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma are very manly states, along with Nevada, Arizona, and Colorado because of the Western rugged individualism. You think of cowboys and cattle ranches in these areas. West Virginia is also very manly with blue collar guys like coal miners. If you want manly in a negative way maybe Los Angeles or Philadelphia with tough boy gangsters, hoods and illegal aliens.
The west coast is pathetic
Seattle, Portland and almost the entire state of CA are girly places..............lots of sushi restaurants, coffee shops, fuel efficient cars and gay men
Especially San Francisco.
