If i lived in either of those cities, i would go very rarely. Kind of like how i only go to DC every so often despite quick access. And just like with here, i would wish i went more often.
Just wondering how often people in these cities take advantage of the access to NYC?
I go frequently for work so this may disqualify a real answer, for pleasure roughly once a month but would say pleasure exclusive trips are realy 8-10 a year. I would guess that more from Philly take advantage more frequently as the travel time is about one-third that of Boston
How much does it cost? $120 for Business - Driving is about $60 in tolls and parking - For pleasure i usually drive to Trenton and take NJT for about $20 roundtrip - there are many intangibles such as cab/subway fares and I do at times take Septa to Trenton or just opt for Metro Amtrak service which I can get from 30th street to NY Penn Station for ~$60 roundtrip. Driving I usually estimate at two hours to get parked somewhere but typically bail for pleasure and take path which all combined can be 1:45 minutes as it avoids the tunnels into manhattan
In Philly there is also DC ~ 2 hours by car or train or Baltimore at about 70-80 minutes (I always drive to Baltimore). For pleasure I am in DC about 5-6 times a year and baltimore 1-2 times. I hardly travel to DC for business anymore, unless I include Rockville/Gaithersburg but to them I currently drive but have occasionally done Acela plus Metro. For pleasure trips to DC I do about half via train and half by car depending on the location...
How long does it take? Acela about 65 minutes
How often do you go? ~30 times a year (8-10 for pleasure)

I don't live in Boston, but whenever I go to NYC I travel through Boston. A one-way ticket on Megabus can cost as little as $5 or even $1 if I book it early. The trip takes about 4 hours and 15 minutes by bus.
As it is now, I typically go to NYC about once a year. I'm not sure whether I would go more frequently if I lived in Boston.

Yeah I have yet to use Megabus or the other one (cant remember the name but man they are all over the Jersey Turnpike these days) I think if booked early enough the Megabus or Bolt (ah that is the name) has fares as low $1 to NYC from Philly, I think the average price is closer to $10 each way though...
Philly/NYC is a much quicker trip than Boston/NYC. I live in New York and have gone to Philly to see a show and come back on the same night. I know many people in Philly who do the same.
I go probably once a year. I used to take the Fung Wah bus b/c it's only $15...but they're wicked shady and unreliable. I have driven myself down from now on, but if I were to go again I'd either fly or take the Bolt Bus.
It only takes like 3-3 1/2 hours if I'm driving but the buses can be 4 1/2.
I go to NY from Philly probably like a couple of times a year. Its only about $20 round trip on the chinatown bus and it takes about a hour and a half. If I drive, I can get there quicker of course.

Never- I don't live in Boston or Philadelphia. I go to New York City on average, once every 1.5 years or so.
