I voted no opinion, though in all I would say no. I would say no, not because I think it wouldn't look nice... but there are tons of different trees that would be able to thrive in the northeast climate, palm trees wouldn't be the answer.

NYC with palm trees already exists, it's called São Paolo.

That would be tacky. It would ruin the landscape of NYC and the integrity of the Palm.

Down on Wall St, they always have their palms out (recycled joke from other thread, just being green ).

Here's another pic of Sao Paolo.

Palm trees does not belong in cities such as NYC, it belongs in the islands or places like FL, but not in NYC.

There is a place where New York City has tall palm trees year round and they look pretty cool. Its an indoor atrium surrounded by upscale stores right next to the Hudson River called the WINTER GARDEN.

You used to be able to cross over a bridge from the World Trade Center directly into the Winter Garden. From there we used to go out the doors to a park next to the Hudson River.

They have fortunately rebuilt the Winter Garden since Sept 11 but sadly the bridge and the Twin Towers are gone forever.

This is a strange question I never thought about. I said no, because it would look totally out of place. Palm trees belong in the extreme south, that's it. Florida can have em, lol. I really can't picture Central Park with palm trees. It already has tons of beautiful trees prettier than palms.

Where I live on Long Island (about 10 miles outside the city), there's a shopping center that has palm trees all over. Here's a picture, but there's more. It looked strange and didn't fit in:
