Nicest cities:
NYC
Boston
Atlanta
Dallas
LA
Chicago
Detroit
McBain, MI
Mattawamkeag, ME
Oxford, IA
Clyde, TX
Gautier, MS
Tonopah, NV
St. Helens, OR
rudest cities:
NYC
Boston
Atlanta
Dallas
LA
Chicago
Detroit
McBain, MI
Mattawamkeag, ME
Oxford, IA
Clyde, TX
Gautier, MS
Tonopah, NV
St. Helens, OR
Oh wait, they are the same list you say. Yes, yes they are. Every city/town/village/etc... is going to have very nice friendly people and they are also going to have real a-holes. Judging an entire area or city by a few people you meet is very narrow. If during my time in TN I had met more of the a-holes than the friendly people I would have a different perspective of the area, wouldn't make it right though. I can truthfully say that I have been all over this Country and every single place holds a fond memory of some great people. I may not like the landscape, or the weather, but in every single place I have stopped and poked around a bit I have met super people. A few old Curmudgeons for sure, but I have learned long ago to just forget about them because their bad attitude shouldn't drag me down to their level.

Well this is about personal experience and opinion, so no one's opinion is end-all-be-all. I'm just going to do one for each. In my experience:
Nicest
NYC
Meanest
Boston
It's true though, I've met nice and mean people in both cities.
Also, people perceive nice and mean differently.

I think all the repetitious posts about how we are all the same and it doesn't matter what city you're in are not helpful or contributive to the discussion.
I think everyone realizes that you can encounter nice and nasty people in every American town and city, but that doesn't mean that certain areas don't have more welcoming vibes.

The question asked is: which cities have the nicest and rudest people of those you've been to (in U.S.)
If I have encountered about the same percentage of nice/rude people in all of my travels is it just as valid of an answer as any other given. Which IS contributing to the discussion. The question is asking for 100% personal perceptions of the people, not how the "vibes" are in any one given location. And even if it were about the feeling of an area, if the number of people are about the same for friendly and rude, the "vibe" will be about the same. I've NEVER gone anywhere where I felt "unwelcoming vibes".
