I love Vancouver. One of my favorite cities in the world. Almost always ranked as one of the most desirable places to live.
Yes! I was there 2 weeks ago and absolutely loved it. Spent time in West Vancouver as well - I'd move there in a heartbeat. Beautiful scenery, clean town, lots to do, lovely shops. So, so unique. One of my top 3 favorites on planet Earth (so far!). Didn't see any palm trees though in Stanley Park.. Maybe they were destroyed by the awful weather they had this past winter.
Don't think Chicago is rerferred to as "The City That Works" for nothin'!
Of course it's not perfect, but comes oh so close, IMO (of any city I've ever lived in.) It's a great town, as most of the criteria in the first posts describe it. (Yes, even natural beauty.)
And with that CTA honcho finally outta there, bet that public transit there will be "working" much better as well now.

Would love to visit Vancouver someday!
Agreed. Don't forget Houston is a city that also works.
How is Vancouver different from Seattle? I'd like to visit Calgary instead though. Canadian Houston anybody? Did I mention mountains and great skiing?
