What about Charleston, S.C.? So much to do and see. Or not, if you'd just as soon sit and watch the world go by.

I'm late to the thread, but I have been to some places like Carmel..

-Vermont, the whole state is sort of like Carmel. Very laid back, gorgeous. Few if any big box stores, lots of charming little towns. Very picturesque. It's a very clean state, probably the cleanest in the country.

-Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket in Mass. Also, alot like Carmel. Cobblestone streets, charming little shops. No big box stores, Walmarts or anything. It might be a little cheaper than Carmel, not quite as high end. I was only there for a day on each, really not sure.

-Cape May, NJ. Yep.

-Cape Cod, Mass. Sort of similar to Carmel, but not as artsy, I dont think any of these are.
