I have been accepted to the Army and have picked three choices for places to be stationed.
San Antonio, TX
Augusta, GA
Washington, DC
Can anyone give me some details about the best neighborhoods to live in near these bases, cost of living, activities and leisure, schools, etc.
Also, we will be moving in January so winters in these cities.
I'd choose San Antonio without hesitation. DC is expensive and has cold weather. I spent a year in Augusta and it was hot, humid and smelly. I've been in San Antonio for almost 3 years and the cost of living and weather are much better than the other 2 choices, IMO.

You should check out the places first. I'd go with San Antonio. I had a friend that moved to DC and said it was ghetto. But as long as you're in a nice neighborhood I'm sure you'd do fine. Just do research.
Augusta, hands down. The growth in GA is happening in Augusta.
You've got to be kidding me. Atlanta and Savannah are both growing faster than Augusta. Metro Atlanta by itself adds close to the equivalent of the city of Augusta just about every year.
Besides, people, the OP only asked for information about each city, not which city to choose from. I swear, can people read these days?

That's actually what the OP is looking for: information about each city. He/she might probably do better by asking in each city's respective forum though.
Concerning DC, if your friend lived in SE DC, I can see how he/she would say that. Otherwise, DC is awesome, IMO.

How long ago was this? It can't be recently because that city has changed dramatically within the last 10 yrs. There are a few "ghetto" outposts in the deep SE part of the city but most of it has been gentrified.
To the OP: Hi there, I am an Army brat so here's my take on the 3 choices . . .
Washington DC is very, very expensive. The weather is fine; mild winters (compared to up North)/Jan will be the coldest. Springtime will easily begin in March but produces alot of allergies (must be all that ragweed and magnolias) and the Summer is very hot and humid. Factor in the air quality with the humidity and it's just plain nasty and unhealthy. But there's tons to do in DC and reasonably close to Balto, Philly, and NYC if you want to take a trip. And if you're in northern VA or other surrounding areas you're kids will be in some of the best public school systems in the country. Where would you be? Pentagon, Fort Meyer, Fort Detrick?
Augusta, GA. Never been there but lived in Columbus, GA (Ft Benning) when I was a kid. People were friendly enough but I remember how HOT it was.
San Antonio, TX. Nice place, clean, and expansive. But after the Riverwalk, the wax museum, and Ripley's Believe It or Not, it's kind of boring. Nice landscape to do things (hot springs, caves, etc.) and I heard they have great shopping. Food is very good too and the people are super-friendly. Far more affordable than DC.
BTW, is this a regular tour of duty or will you be retiring and looking for work? If so, then DC has the job opportunities. Best of luck in your search!

I know what she is asking for but there isn't much I can say about two of them.
I just said what my friend told me you all. I know it's a nice place, but she actually lived there. I said if you find the right neighborhoods you would be fine.
