I did a google image search of block parties. Nearly all of the results were mostly pictures from Long Island/NYC, but also DC, Chicago, and one in the Tipperary hill section of Syracuse.
I'm not surprised about the one in the Tipp Hill section of town. Still an area with strong Irish ties. You might find some in the Westcott area of Syracuse by Syracuse University too.

It's the same exact thing here.

We don't have block parties here, there is only a fall festival and occasional things at parks and stuff like that.

Block parties look fun.

I'm surprised you don't have any around your neighborhoods, since it's Queens. I've went to some in Queens.

Its weird because Queens has a lot of room for stuff like that. The closest thing to a block party I've been to was the Feast of San Gennaro lol.

I'm not talking street fairs either. Those are run by the town, they're on the main roads of a city/town, and people just go to them. Block parties are entirely different.
I know exactly what you mean Rachael. It's a New York thing. They always have block parties where I lived in The Bronx.

I'll give some insight for the people that does not know about block parties.

History

Block parties are reported as a World War I innovation originating from the East Side of New York City, where an entire block was roped off and patriotic songs sung and a parade held to honor the members of that block who had gone off to war.

Definition of Block Parties

A block party is a large public party in which many members of a single neighbourhood congregate, either to observe an event of some importance or simply for mutual enjoyment. The name comes from the form of the party, which often involves closing an entire city block to vehicle traffic.

Not a NYC thing, it's also a Chicago thing.
you actually close down a block and people people from the blocks grill, play, have bouncy things, break open water hydrants, etc.

Not a freakin car wash, but in between apartments/houses .... for example this street would be closed down

I know but I was just statin that it originated in NYC, then the rest of the people copy it just like many things nowadays. Almost everything is in NYC city first, then everybody commence to copy it.

Yes, someone understands what I mean For example, the one I was at tonight had the bouncy things, a DJ with loud music organizing fun games, a huge beer pong tournament for the adults at night, food catered, the neighbors setting up tents and chairs out in the street in front of their houses and everyone walking all over, kids riding bikes. It was tons of fun.
