Default Before starting a new thread, be sure that your thread topic doesn't belong in one of City-Data's general forums.

We've had many instances lately of comparison threads being posted in General US that should have been posted in City vs. City.

Here's a quote from the other sticky thread that explains this rule:

Quote:
General US is the best place to post threads seeking informational comparisons between two or more areas. If you are deciding between a move to Portland, Maine and a move to Portland, Oregon; General US is the one forum at City-Data where you can get feedback on both areas. (Since cross-posting the same thread in two or more forums is against City-Data's Terms of Service, that is your only option within the rules for such comparison threads!)

The City vs. City subforum of General US is the best place to post competitive comparisons. If you want to enthusiastically tout the merits of your city in comparison with another city or cities, post it in the subforum. If you want to ask which cities are the best in some subjective category that doesn't matter to folks who are relocating, ask it in City vs. City.
I'm leaving the thread open for those who have questions about this rule.

If your comparison thread isn't asking "Should I move to..." the places you're comparing, it belongs in City vs. City.

If it's asking "Which of these cities is better?" on an open-ended basis, it should ALWAYS be posted in City vs. City.
