I'll be towing a 6x12 rental trailer with my 96' cherokee and was wondering about a good route to Seattle, WA. I'll be starting the trip in El Paso, TX and am hoping to make the trip in two and a half days. I considered going directly north west but am a little worried about the grade on certain roads considering I'm towing a trailer. The trip through California is longer but maybe less mountainous areas (except maybe Oregon). Any advice?
Thanks for your help.
I agree, if you are concerned about the ease of pulling a trailer, I'd stay on the interstates. I-10 to I-210 (through LA) to I-5, specifically. If you were to go the most direct route, much of the road is two lane from Gallup until you almost get to Salt Lake City, so it will be a bit more stressful pulling a trailer on a two-lane road because of having to pass and being passed ...plus will take more time in comparison. Using the direct route, you'll have to go over Deadman Pass on I-84 and Snoqualmie Pass on I-90 in addition to the two-lane roads in the Rockies.
The only real grade you'll encounter going I-10 to I-5 will be Siskiyou Pass and the grade isn't horrendous at all compared to some others.
That's quite a move, going from solid desert to rainy climates.
