Traveling up through Canada by way of Seattle recently, it struck how since the Space Needle was built for the World's Fair in 1962, many cities have built their own high-rise observation towers. Canada sems to have a few of them, and I know internationally these tourist towers seem to be somewhat common.

Off the top of my head--

CN Tower-Toronto
Calgary Tower, Calgary
Harbour Center, Vancouver (sort of)
Stratosphere Tower, Las Vegas
Reunion Tower, Dallas
Tower of the Americas, San Antonio
Sky Tower, Auckland
Sydney Tower, Sydney

What else...

If you're talking around the world, shouldn't the Eiffel in Paris be on there, too?

no tower like the space needle anywhere near LA (excluding the Stratosphere in Vegas) but the theme building in LAX has the same type of googie architecture as the space needle

Theme Building: File:LAX LA.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Space Needle: File:VolunteerParkNeedle.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

pretty similar huh

Have they finished the siesmic retrofit to the Theme Building yet, Western87?

I saw it in late May, and it was still "wrapped" by all the scaffolding.

San Antonio has this thing:
TOWER OF AMERICAS, San Antonio Texas

A lot of cities with smaller skylines seem to have them. They're actually pretty common.
