I can see similarities between the southern accent and people in parts of the interior southwest, such as in people from parts of New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, southern Utah, southern Nevada, and interior southern California.

I have the traditional SW accent. The best I can tell, it's a modified accent of the type spoken in the Mid South into OK and the Texas panhandle. I guess it's pretty obvious how it spread.
