I just thought it might be fun to post your favorite songs (not full lyrics, copyright infringement and all that) that relate to a city, state, or place. Which state appears most? California? New York? Texas?

Edit: Didn't mean to put this in the City vs. City section of the forum. Mods can move it if they like.

I like this one because it mentions my old neighborhood in Portland, OR ("West Hills"):

April in Paris - Various renditions are good, particularly Count Basie's.
Blue Moon of Kentucky - Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass boys
California Dreamin' - The Mamas and the Papas (Screwed up individuals, but they did some good music)
Do You Know What it Means to Miss New Orleans - Hoagy Carmichael, but Louis Armstrong rendition.
El Paso - Marty Robbins/Grady Martin
Georgia on my Mind - Ray Charles rendition.
Hawai'i '78 - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole
House of the Rising Sun - The Animals version seems to be about events in New Orleans.
Katmandu - Cat Stevens (For a change of pace as it's not a normal city in music)
Kentucky Homemade Christmas - Kenny Rogers (Important place in my early years of life)
Moonlight in Vermont - John Blackburn and Karl Suessdorf (Although instrumental versions only)
New York City - By a Canadian indie band called "Cub", but I know it from a "They Might be Giants" cover. Listened to it this afternoon. (Others I like involving NYC "On Broadway" for the Drifters, "Putting on the Ritz" by Taco, "Boy from New York City" by the Ad Libs, "Famous Blue Raincoat" by Leonard Cohen. I listened an Amos version of the Cohen earlier as well)
Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Tennessee - Arrested Development
Walking in Memphis - Marc Cohn
Walking to New Orleans - Fats Domino

I notice Chicago rappers never mention the Northside. And Lupe spent sometime in Harvey and went to Thornton Township High School. Lupe is on fire as usual staying true to real Hip Hop.

if i pick a music type for Chicago or New York it wouldn't be rap. a lot of successful rappers were born and raised there, but i really like that 1930's jazzy feel, like New York New York or Chicago by frank sinatra
