I am an athletic director looking for some relocation ideas. I am trying to decide where to send in applications for a new athletic director position and plan on moving out of Maine hopefully in the next few years.
I currently live on the Maine Coast. I am looking for more of a suburban feel, more to do although I do like being close to plenty of outdoor activities and like the scenery with a lot of trees, etc. I like the look of new construction and feel most of the houses here are old and outdated. I do like living by either the ocean or a lake. I prefer the four seasons but would maybe consider something else. I would like to be close to a bigger city (maybe an 1-2 at the most), but also being close to nature (I like to hike, bike, etc.). I like Maine however the cost of living is way too high and it is lacking a decent sized city.
Does anyone have any ideas on where I could consider moving that has decent salaries, cost of living not too high, access to cities and outdoor recreational opportunities, preferably four seasons, and for a lot of new housing available. I do not like the Midwest at all. Any advice on different areas would be great.
A second vote for the Pittsburgh area. I'm also a native New Englander and I've found the people of western PA to be similar to that of some areas of northern New England. It most definitely is NOT a Midwestern culture despite what some people say. I've lived in the Midwest for years (several locations at that) and I don't believe western PA bears much resemblance to any area out here except for the extreme eastern portion of Ohio.
