Default Norfolk Light Rail Cars Arrive

Two light rail vehicles arrive in Norfolk, Va. The starter route is a 7.4 mile line from Eastern Virginia Medical School, through downtown Norfolk, past Norfolk State University, to the Virginia Beach city line at NewtownRd. Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads Transit are conductiong the AA/EIS right now with completion by next summer. Once that is complete, Virginia Beach will apply for New Starts funding, build the extension through downtwown Virginia Beach to the Virginia Beach OCeanfront, a 14 mile extension. Once the EIS/AA for the VB segment is concluded, HRT will conduct the AA/EIS for an extension to the Norfolk Naval Station through Old Dominion University. If we get lucky we could build two expansions at the same time. The ultimate plan is to extend light rail up to Williamsburg, through the surrounding cities (Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Newport News, etc.) and it's estimated by 2030, 150,000+ people will ride light rail daily.

The initial starter line is 7.4 miles from the Medical Center (Medical School + Norfolk General) through downtown to the Virginia Beach/Norfolk border. The EIS/AA for the extension to downtown Virginia Beach and the Oceanfront is underway and the EIS/AA to Norfolk International and the largest naval station in the world is about to be underway.

Those look really nice

I hope when we're finally able to get light rail (in a million years), it'll look something like that.

I'm happy for Va, but you keep shoving this light rail down our thoughts, which has become slightly annoying. Well, maybe more than slightly.
Either way, good for VA............................
