Its like a cloud in the back of my mind as I plan for a winter trip to Florida and/or Colorado. Ive read a lot lately about bed bugs and it isn't pleasant. I hear that they are hard to get rid of and nasty bites result from those little creatures. Anyone have any ideas on this subject?

I've traveled so much over the years and have never once given bed bugs a thought. Motels are probably not the cleanest place in the entire world, ESPECIALLY in Florida. My Florida room was disgusting this year, but.....I still wasn't worried about bedbugs. I don't know how to get rid of them if you do have them, but I would suggest at the minimum, ask the hotel clerk to see the room before you rent it, I did this quite a bit in Florida and they were all very happy to let me look first to make sure it was clean and free of mold and other nasty stuff.

Never worried about bed bugs. Have been worried about rats/mice after finding poop on a pillow a couple times

Is it true that they don't even wash the bedding at motels? I have never stayed at a motel before and I don't trust them. If it's true that they don't wash the bedding, I don't understand why anyone would stay at a motel.

What then, do you sleep in your car when you travel?

Just look between the mattress and the box spring. If you see creepy-crawlies, tell the front desk you want your money back and spring for a nicer hotel. Otherwise, don't worry about it to much. If you're spending that much time in the hotel, you're not having a fun trip anyway.

Nope, not at all. Only because I sleep at motels/hotels about 35-40 nights a year. Never had any ill-effects. More important things to worry about IMO.

LOL.....never heard that one before. Actually most chain motels probably have much nicer acomidations then you have at home.

I've stayed at hotels but never at a motel.
