When people critique New York, I don't get offended. I just pity them for being so jealous.

IMO people should stop all the bashing. IMO it just shows how jealous you are. IMO people should learn to keep their opinions to themselves. IMO if you cannot say something nice don't say something at all. IMO some people care too much about other peoples opinion. Get the picture?

I love New York, but when did it become exempt from criticism? Or are you just joking?

Depends on how u present an opinion.
Not always. Sometimes you can say your thing very diplomatically and someone will fire off some hostile, defensive, sarcastic response. You can only control what you say, not what someone else says.

I think it has something to do with self-esteem and how people are conditioned. Most people feel the need to identify with someone or something to feel validated, rather then improving upon themselves and thus most times wearing a false pride on their sleeve.

I guess it depends.
I can get pretty defensive.
A lot of the time it is because of our own pride, we will not admit to other people that their city may even compete with ours.
Sometimes its because some people are just biggots...
Sometimes it's a mix of the two.
or sometimes it your own fault...
