Midwestern cities are, I believe, more segregated. Indiana had a KKK governor for a time. More recently they gained attention on race because of Tony Zirkle. (Not that his campaign went anywhere)

White and black are segregated much more here than anywhere in the south Ive ever seen. It seems to be this way in the rest of the midwest as well. White people tend to the suburbs and small towns, and the only place you find minoritys is in the central city. Look at the Detroit area, Chicago, Indianapolis etc. Most people dont know that Indiana and Michigan also have a HUGE history with KKK. They used to say the Detroit metro area was the most segregated in the whole country. When you travel in the southern states it seems to me that the races live closer together, less segregated. I think the states of dixie get an unfair bad rap on race issues. If you look at the midwest honestly, we have far more race issues than the south.
Another interesting observation, and again I'm comparing the Tampa Bay metro area to Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo is up here more blacks hold key positions within the community such as city or county commission seats, school superintendents, etc. than their Southern counterparts.

In contrast the general labor workforce of the cities and counties up here are overwhelmingly white as opposed to St. Petersburg, FL where the exact opposite is true.

Your latter comment would be called discrimination, not racism, because it's within the group not among the groups.

Anyway, my area isn't too bad. It's more institutional in terms of racism and some of the things I think of can effect Whites that aren't in the loop as well. My area is different in that you see poor Blacks and Whites living together in many parts of the city and even in the "Blackest" parts of the city, you see at least a few Whites. There are even some Hispanics/Latinos, Native Americans and some Asians(mainly SE and South Asian immigrants/refugees) in some of the working class/poorer neighborhoods too.

So, a lot of issues with race, as usual, are connected to economics and "connections". Even in terms of crime, most of it is overwhelmingly intraracial and even the interracial crime a lot of times is linked to things like illegal drugs(drug deals gone bad generally and has occurred in various ways).

BTW- Here are examples of the Blackest neighborhoods in the city of Syracuse: http://www.city-data.com/neighborhoo...racuse-NY.html

This whole racism subject is really a bunch of bull. If whites want to protect their neighborhood against an influx of blacks its called racism. If blacks drive whites out of their neighborhoods with a spate of criminal activity it isn't racism. If blacks attack a white its not racism but if a white attacks a black it is racism and gets national attention. Whites and blacks are not made to live in the same communities because we are too oposite in every way. We bring out the worst in each other. Of course this idea will be called racist too.

Discrimination occurs because people are close-minded. The place that they live there is not much of diversity.

You are WAY OFF...I assume you're white from reading your post, as am I - but you and I are nothing alike and would obviously bring out the worst in each other, and we are definitely not made to live peacefully in same community.

I would never judge anyone's character or decide our compatibility by their skin color. In my personal experiences, I have met people of all colors who I'm compatible with...along with MANY people of all colors who I'm incompatible with. It's simply ignorant to make those decisions based on color.

Just because of who I am and what I am, I think I'm screwed no matter where I move. And there you have it.
