Yup.

You know for some reason I like the one with Prince better. It was so zany and completely unbelievable. A basketball game and then pancakes.

The Rick James was maybe more interesting because he was involved and you could almost believe there's a kernel of reality to it. In that Rick James really did have a major drug problem, which I'm not sure he ever entirely resolved. Still it being a tad more real, or at least a tad more tragic, somehow made it a bit less funny to me.

The prince skit was classic..."The shirts against the blouse!"

Yeah, we might be getting off topic though. I'd hate to get a warning for infraction or something. Although I guess they did deal with "orientals" in the racial draft sketch or the racial pixies one. I didn't see the pixies one though.

In Britain, Oriental refers to East Asians (China, Japan, etc).
When the Brits say "Asian", they are talking about South Asians (India, Pakistan, etc).....this is still the standard practice today in the UK.

The other day I watched an episode of Wings from 1990 that used the word "Oriental" to describe a woman. As I recall that word seemed almost anachronistic then, but I guess it was still used.

I use Oriental to describe people of Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, etc. heritage.

"Asian" is such a broad, vague, worthless PC term it's almost sickening. So I guess there's no difference between an Israeli or a Syrian and a Korean? It's ridiculous.

Not used by younger generations of Americans except in reference to rugs, a context in which the term is still used often.

Right, which is why people use "east asian" , "southeast asian", or "middle eastern". Some now use "south asian" for Indian or Bangladeshi.

Whatever they choose to use is fine. There is nothing offensive or mean-spirited about the term Oriental.
