to the OP- You should have somewhat of an idea of where you wanna live, do you wanna live close to a city or completly isolated, do you want flat land or forested land or does none of this matter as long as the housing is cheap

you could look at a map and pick random towns then go to a realtors website and browse some average 3br houses to get an idea of the area

we have vacationed in the south so we know its basically the same as ohio, just a lot more populated here. We dont mind the accent.

As far as what we want we want to be at least a half hour to an hour and a half from a city. We dont care if the housing is open or forrested as long as were getting a good deal.

I would look at google street maps around the cities that you are considering in the states you want, then look at the towns that are outside of the area, if you see one you like then check out the realtor websites, Im sure they will all be very affordable and around the same price when you go about an hour to 1.5 hours out of the city.
